SuccessFactors Employee Extension Center: Adapt your configuration to face COVID-19 challenges

Some companies are forced to react quickly to the COVID-19 pandemic and find appropriate responses to ensure that their employees are healthy or well taken care of, that they are not exposed to health risks through their professional activities, that they are able to ensure continuity in their work and therefore to provide them with the conditions for effective remote work.

These challenges require good communication between all the actors of the company

SuccessFactors, by virtue of its position as a platform between you and your employees, can be mobilized in order to smooth the exchanges within your organization.

The SAP SuccessFactors Extension functionality Center can in particular be used here in the creation of personalized MDF objects, in order to develop new services not covered by the standard solution and to meet the specific needs caused by the crisis.

The Extension Center supports you in the creation of these personalized objects , using a "wizard" tool, thus guaranteeing the integrity of your MDF objects and ensuring that they are correctly configured.

 

1 –Gather information about the situation of your employees 

 

Employee Central is a very effective Employee Self Service tool, and therefore can allow you to collect a significant amount of information in a very short time.

By creating a personalized portlet and promoting it to your employees, you will be able to collect key information about your employees, which, compiled, will allow you to produce complete reports on the macro situation of the company. 

 

 

Here, for example, we created a portlet that questions about:

  • Working conditions (Working from home? With a drop-down list Y / N)
  • Has the employee recently visited Risk Zones (With a drop-down list Y / N)
  • The employee's state of health (Health status - With a drop-down list presenting the different states listed: Self-Isolating - No Symptoms / Hospitalized - Suspected / Self-Isolation - Suspected / Recovered / Healthy, etc ...)

We can of course imagine other types of fields and lists of different values.

Records on Employee Central are effective-dated, so these records can be updated daily while keeping track of previous records.

The recorded data can then be exported to build reports presenting a macro state of the health situation in the company.

  

To add this configuration, you will need to perform the following tasks:

- Creatio, of a picklist to associate with the Health status field

- Creation of a custom MDF object

- Creation of a user interface configuration

Once all these objects have been created and configured, you can add your portlet to the employee profile and grant it the appropriate permissions. 

 

2 –Support the establishment of an effective remote working 

 

Employee self-service can also allow employees to generate requests which can then be forwarded to the parties concerned.

By creating a personalized portlet to generate requests for the provision of equipment, you will be able to ensure that all of your employees have the equipment necessary for carrying out their professional activities. 

 

 

Here we have created a portlet that questions about:

  • The necessary equipment (With a drop-down list presenting the different items available Laptop / Headset / Monitor / etc ...)
  • The date for which the equipment is required
  • A comments field to justify the request

We can of course imagine other types of fields and lists of different values.

This portlet is also associated with an approval workflow, authorizing validation by different levels of management, before being sent to the logistics department. 

 

To add this configuration, you will need to perform the following tasks:

  • Creation of a picklist to associate with the Equipment field
  • Creation of a custom MDF object
  • Creation of a user interface configuration 
  • Creation of an approval workflow
  • Creation of a rule to trigger the approval workflow

Once all these objects have been created and configured, you can add your portlet to the employee profile and grant it the appropriate permissions.

These are just two of the many options for which Employee Central can help you weather the current crisis.
